The history of our company goes back to the 1960’s. We’ve always believed in using our planet’s resources respectfully and are among the short list of companies who have made recycling their primary business. Over the years, we have kept over 555,000,000 million pounds of waste out of our landfills, enough to fill a football stadium 10 times over.
What We Do
Charter Recycling collects and processes over half a million pounds of credential grade clothing every month, from hundreds of prime locations all along the East Coast. Our partners, Jack and Karl, have pioneered cleaner and more efficient collection methods over their many years in the business, while maintaining a high standard of product. We have clothing collection bins in many high end shopping centers, which gives us the quality of clothing our customers want. We pack our product in 1000 pound bales, and sell by the container load. Contact us to find out more.
Where does it all go?
All of the clothing, shoes and stuffed toys are shipped to third world countries, such as Mexico, South America, Africa and Haiti, and not one drop of it goes to waste. A distributor buys a container load, which they then sell by the bale to smaller distributors, who then sell in local markets. Items of clothing are sold for pennies, giving people access to high quality, inexpensive clothes, helping them dress appropriately for school and business, and creating jobs for the sellers. Some items, such as belts and shoes, are recycled into road material. Woolens are recycled into new material. Read more about how used clothing is recycled.
Where our clothes are collected
We have hundreds of locations on the east coast, and take care of the placement and maintenance of our collection bins. We understand the need for our partner’s properties to be neat and clean, and our drivers to be professional and efficient. Our collections are made in upscale shopping centers to obtain the highest quality clothing.
In the last 10 years, we have streamlined the process to be efficient and clean, and are partnering with major real estate management companies who support the placement of clothing collection bins. We pay our partners a fee for the placements. Learn more about partnering with us.
